A couple of weeks ago it emerged that Emma Stone was in talks for a role in the big screen remake of 80s TV series 21 Jump Street. At the time it seemed difficult to know where she’d fit it into her hectic schedule – especially with Spider-man about to begin shooting.
Now she’s told MTV that while she was interested, ‘I don’t think I’m going to be part of that, but Jonah is one of my favourite people in the entire world.’
She also gives an update on her role in the Spider-man reboot, which Marc Webb will direct, with Andrew Garfield stepping into Peter Parker’s shows. However it sounds like she’s trying not to get too excited about what will be her first major role in a massive summer action movie. She says, ‘Itll probably feel different when we start to do press, but we wont have to deal with that for another year and a half. And there are harnesses Im going to have to use in this one. Thats the only difference. Just the harnesses.
‘Today I went and did hair tests, because I have blonde hair now since Gwen has blonde hair. My natural hair is blonde, so its kind of nice. I looked in the mirror and said, Oh my god, its me again, its been so long! Were finalizing the visual stuff. And I think well start actually rehearsing, because we start shooting in two weeks.’
However it does sound as if they’re taking things down to the wire, as while filming begins in December, the script is yet to be locked. Emma comments, ‘There are a lot of changes happening on a day to day basis. Theres a lot of open dialogue about where were going with this and how Peter and Gwen are going to come together and what makes the most sense for the story were telling. Its an ever-changing thing. Were still in that development period. Its so fantastic. My background is in improv and things like that, so this kind of ever-changing nature is ideal for me.’
Hoepfully the things that are open are relatively cosmetic – it could literally be minor changes to dialogue as people find their character – as if it does start shooting without a finished script, alarm bells are likely to start ringing.
