Collider recently spoke with Billy Bob Thornton, who was out promoting his new action thriller Faster, and the actor revealed that he may possibly star in a sequel to his 2003 holiday hit Bad Santa. Here’s what he had to say “Bad Santa’s become like a classic Christmas movie. People watch It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street and Bad Santa. Now its sort of the box set. And there’s been talk of making a sequel to it, which I actually would like to do. I’ve never done a sequel to one of my movies, but that one makes sense to me to do it.”
I’m not entirely sure many people include Bad Santa in the same breath as It’s A Wonderful Life and Miracle On 34th Street, but it is a good movie. It also sounds like any sequel is in the very early stages, so don’t expect to see it imminently.
It also appears Billy Bob wants to direct again, which would be his first stint behind the camera since 2001’s Daddy & Them. The film would be based on a script called Jayne Mansfield’s Car, with Thornton saying: “My old writing partner Tom Epperson and I just wrote another script, we havent written together in years, 15 maybe. And were hoping to get that made in the spring, thats what were working on right now No title. But its aactually it does have a title, I may as well tell you, maybe itll intrigue people. Its called Jayne Mansfields Car, and its a dandy if I do say so.”
He gave no details on the plot though, although the title would seem to refer to the car in which Mansfield died in a 1967 automobile accident (her daughter, Mariska Hargitay, now famed for her role in Law & Order: SVU, was also in the car but escaped unharmed), but how that relates to the the script is a mystery.
