Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are ridiculously busy men. Ever since the success of Zombieland, they’ve been amongst the most in-demand screenwriters in Hollywood, signing up to write a Zombieland sequel, the Deadpool movie, G.I. Joe 2, Earth Versus Moon, and it was recently announced they were working on an adaptation of Cowboy Viking Ninja for Disney.
If all that weren’t enough, they’ve now decided they want to direct, with THR reporting that they’re attached to make their debut with Doc And Howie. Interestingly though, it won’t be based on one of their own screenplays. Instead they’re taking TV writer Stephen Leff’s script, which landed on last year Black List of the top unproduced screenplays in Hollywood.
Originally titled Doc And Howie Whack A Grandma, the title characters accidentally kill an elderly woman when they neglect to help her carry her groceries up the stairs. In a fortuitous twist, the incident brings them into contact with the womans hot granddaughters, and they struggle with the dilemma of whether to tell the women the truth. And yes, in case you haven’t guessed, it’s a sort of Harold and Kumar style flick.
Reese and Wernick hope to start shooting next summer – assuming they have the time in their increasingly hectic schedules!
