Are you ready for endless rumours of who’s going to be the next Superman? In fact you might have already heard completely unfounded suggestions that Jon Hamm would play an older Man Of Steel, or that Brandon Routh would be back. Well, now it appears it’s time for more fervoured speculation, as Deadline reports that the search for a new Superman has officially begun.
Warner and director Zach Snyder are apparently planning to cast a wide net during their search, so expect many names to come up before a final one is settled on. It also looks as though they don’t want a star name, instead looking at actors who aren’t too well known (which fits with most screen Supermen, who were discoveries) in age range of 28-to-32.
Although it appears more speculation than based on fact, Deadline do mention three names, including The Social Network’s Armie Hammer (who certainly looks a bit Man Of Steel-y), Vampire Diaries and Lost Star Ian Somerhalder and True Blood’s Joe Manganiello, who even said recently that he was being considered for the role. However hiring someone who’s in a TV show may prove difficult, as the plan is to shoot next June, meaning filming couldn’t just be slotted in-between seasons of a television series.
Endless names will inevitably be brought up in connection for the role before it’s finally announced, but one thing that seems certain is that it won’t be Jon Hamm.
