While the fact Christopher Nolan pretty much refuses to give out any info on his movies annoys some, it’s a pretty smart tactic, as it ensures all sorts of speculation and interest. After all, we knew virtually nothing about Inception until a couple months before it was released, with the lack of info making people wait on tenterhooks to find out what it’s all about.
Now it’s time for Dark Knight Rises rumours and speculation. We’ve known for a while that Tom Hardy would be in the movie, but there’s been a complete lockdown on info about the character he’ll play. It’s been said he’ll be Killer Croc or various other comic characters, but the latest rumour say’s Hardy will be playing Dr. Hugo Strange.
Batman News has the story, and they seem pretty confident in their source, but unsurprisingly, there’s been absolutely no info from Nolan’s camp. The site says, ‘My source strongly believes that Hardy is going to be playing Hugo Strange. This is the first bit of information from this person that Im publishing, however they have been accurate in the past. For example, this person told me weeks before the recent Christoper Nolan interview that The Riddler would not be appearing in the film. They also mentioned that Rachel Weisz and Anne Hathaway were in the running for the lead female role a couple of weeks before Deadline posted their list.’
In the comics, Strange is a genius, mad scientist who becomes obsessed with Batman, learns his secret identity and ends up dressing up like him. That would certainly fit into Nolan’s ethos, especially as a theme brought out in the second film was how Batman’s existence causes other people to follow his lead, and get into trouble because of it.
Hugo Strange seems a good educated guess, but knowing Nolan, don’t be shocked if he refuses to confirm Hardy’s character’s identity until the day before the movie’s 2012 release.
