After the success of the first two films, it comes as less than no surprise that Paramount has now officiially announced Paranormal Activity 3, and that it’ll be in cinemas October 21st, 2011, just in time for Halloween (that’s the US date, although presumably it’ll be released over here at the same time).
There aren’t too many details on the movie – no plot details were forthcoming, for example, and it’s not even clear if work has started on a script – but Oren Peli, who directed the first film and produced the second, made to annnouncement about the third film, suggesting he’s onboard as well.
You can certainly see why Paramount is keen, as while sequels normally get increasingly expensive to make, Paranormal Activity 2 only cost $3 million (still more than the first, but nothing compared to most movies) and has so far grossed over $156 million worldwide. If the run continues, expect a new flick every year for the forseeable future.
