The last we heard about Neighborhood Watch, it was being set up as a possible vehicle for Will Ferrell, before both he and director David Dobkin left, and Ruben Fleishcher started sniffing around it as a possible follow-up to Zombieland. Well now Peter Segal (Get Smart) is possibly down to direct, but Fox still seems to think the script needs work, so according to THR, they’ve hired Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to rewrite it.
There’s no news on whether this mean Rogen is eying the role once designed for Ferrell, although as he appeared in Superbad and Pineapple Express, which he and Goldberg also wrote, there’s a good chance he is thinking of starring. The plot centres on a group of suburban fathers who use the Neighborhood Watch as a front to get some male-bonding time in away from their family. The plot thickens when they accidentally discover a nefarious plot to destroy the world.
It’ll be interesting to see whether it actually gets made, as it’s one of those projects that always seems to be close to production, but never actually gets there.
