For the last few weeks it’s seemed like someone’s been playing games with who would have cameos in upcoming new Muppet Movie. Even some respectable sources, like Production Weekly, have been suggesting names like Paul Rudd and Jane Lynch, who it turns out weren’t involved at all.
However now THR has some names which do appear definite, saying Jean-Claude Van Damme, Alan Arkin and Billy Crystal will join the previously mentioned Zach Galifianakis and Jack Black in cameo roles. They’ll appear opposite the main human cast of Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Rashida Jones and Chris Cooper. Arkin is a tour guide while Black will play a kidnap victim. Galifianakis plays a hobo, although there’s no details on the what the other cameo roles will be.
However that’s not all as What’s Playing says that George Clooney is also being lined up for a small role, but only if they can find time in his schedule. The scene he’d appear in would see Clooney being interviewed by different Muppets at the premiere of the fictional Michael Clayton 2. Whether this will happen, or indeed whether there’s any substance to the rumour, isn’t known.
The main plot of the Muppet Movie sees a young couple (Segel and Adams) heading to Hollywood and helping the Muppets save their studio and theatre, which is under threat from a greedy oil tycoon (Cooper).
