Phillip Noyce is one of those directors who always makes films that are pretty watchable, even if he only ocassionally helms something that’s really excellent. From Dead Calm and Patriot Games to Rabbit-Proof Fence and the recent Salt, he has been remarkably dependable (as long as we ignore the atrocious Sliver, that is).
Now he’s in talks for a new flick, with Deadline reporting that he wants to make Timeless, based on a ptich by Enchanted scribe Bill Kelly, which Relativity Media has just picked up. To be honest though, you may need a bit of a sickbag just for the premise of this romantic sci-fi flick. A recently wed man loses his wife and discovers after the fact she has left him a fortune. Haunted by an unresolved issue between himself and his wife, the man invests the money to build a time travel device, just to see her one last time.
Hopefully Noyce will ensure there’s a bit more to it than that, and it isn’t quite as nauseating as it sounds.
