The human end of the upcoming new Muppets movie is growing, with numerous new names said to be attached to the movie, although it’s unclear how definite many of these are. Production Weekly tweeted that: ‘Hearing that Eric Stonestreet, John Krasinski & Ed Helms may be in Lady Gagas entourage for The Muppets, also mentioned Jack Black, Donald Glover, Jane Lynch, Danny Trejo, Zach Galifianakis as Hobo Jo & Paul Rudd as Walter the Muppet.’ However they later issued a retraction, saying: ‘Muppet Update: Paul Rudd NOT the voice of Walter the Muppet (says @TheInSneider) – but Kristen Schaal has been mentioned as the Moderator.’
However if all those names, barring Paul Rudd, are involved, it’s going to be quite a cast – we were promised plenty of celbrity cameos, and it seems we’re getting them! It’s also the first we’ve heard about anything to do with Lady Gaga in the movie, although Production Weekly seems to treat it like it’s common knowledge. However as the movie is to do with saving the old Muppet Theatre, it could be that Gaga is one of the Muppets guests, just as they had each week in their classic TV show.
The Wrap have confirmed Glee’s Jane Lynch, Donald Glover and Danny Trejo in the movie, saying that while they don’t know who Glover will be, Lynch will play a prison guard and Trejo will play her prisoner. Galifianakis’ involvement was let slip by Robert Downey Jr. last weeked during promotion for Due Date.
Jason Segel and Amy Adams already have the key human roles in The Muppets, as a couple who head to Hollywood and end up helping the Muppets, while Rashida Jones and Chris Cooper have also previously been cast. Shooting begins soon.
Interestingly the script is said to have several more cameos written into it, with Segel getting a verbal commitment from the actors before he wrote it, which would mean the likes of Sean Penn will also show up!
