Although movie versions of classic novels tend to be very variable, with Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender starring, and Karyn Fukunaga, who made the excellent Sin Nombre, directing, the new adpatation of Jane Eyre is more intriguing than most. Now the first trailer has debuted, and it certainly sells the gothic and romantic aspects of the story. Here’s the official synopsis: ‘Based on Charlotte Brontës classic novel, the romantic drama stars Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds in the lead roles. In the story, Jane Eyre flees Thornfield House, where she works as a governess for wealthy Edward Rochester. The isolated and imposing residence and Mr. Rochesters coldness have sorely tested the young womans resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned.
