Disney sure loves trying to turn its theme park rides into movies. Ever since Pirates Of The Caribbean hit big, it’s been looking for other attractions that might make money at the cinema. While the Eddie Murphy starring Haunted Mansion failed, the House Of Mouse is already working on a new movie based on that ride, and there’s even a Night At The Museum style film based on the entire Magiic Kingdom in the works.
The latest Disneyland staple that may get the film treatment is the Enchanted Tiki Room, which has been at the California park ever since 1963, when the imagineers took advantage of a craze for all things Polynesian, and created an attraction hosted by animatronic parrots. THR reports on the move, which involves Disney negotiating to pick up a spec script called Tiki by Ahmet Zappa and Michael Wilson.
Officially the studio is saying the script isn’t directly based on the Enchanted Tiki Rooms, but it seems it served as an inspiration to the screenwriters. Not a huge amount is known about the plot, although it is set in Hawaii and takes in the cultures rich reserve of unique gods, embodied by wooden masks and engravings, as well as ghost stories.
