While there’s been speculation that M. Night Shyamalan’s next movie would be a sequel to Last Airbender, and there were reports a few months ago that he had a script to which the likes of Bruce Willis, Cooper and Gwyneth Paltrow were loosely attached, it seems the director isn’t doing either of those projects next (partly because the latter script never found a buyer), and instead has settled on One Thousand A.E.
Shyamalan hasn’t written this one (which considering the trajectory of his screenplays from Sixth Sense to The Happening and Last Airbender, probably isn’t a bad thing). Instead it’s based on a script by Gary Whitta (The Book Of Eli), which Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment is developing. Very little is known about the movie, other than that it’s in the sci-fi genre, is being developed as a starring vehicle for Jaden Smith, and that despite there being a major role for an adult male, Will Smith won’t be starring.
Let’s just hopw Shyamalan can make something that doesn’t get pilloried by critics in the way Last Airbender did.
