It seems that with David O’Russell vacating the director’s chair on Pride And Prejudice And Zombies, it’s set off a veritable rios in Hollywood, with numerous directors all circling the job and showing their interest. You can understand why, as the chance to take on a literary classic, but add in an attack by the undead, doesn’t come along that often.
The other day, it was suggested Prince Of Persia’s Mike Newell was the current front-runner for the director’s chair, with Neill Marshall’s name also being bandied about. Now TheWrap adds in a few more names, saying, ‘Jonathan Demme has read the script and wants to direct the movie, but hes not the only one interested in the job, as TheWrap has learned that Matt Reeves (Cloverfield), Mike White (Year of the Dog) and the Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller are also in the mix.’
It’s certainly a very broad mix of directors known for very different types of movies, but with Pride And Prejudice And Zombies’ mash-up of period drama, horror and comedy, prehaps that’s not too suprising. To be honest, out of those the story probably matches Mike White’s sensibilities the best, but while he’s a great screenwriter, the jury’s still out on his directing abilities.
With all those names in the mix, expect a new director to be announced soon.
