For a movie that really was a bit something and nothing, New Line is certainly pulling a cast of passable names together for the sequel to Journey To The Center Of The Earth. While Brendan Fraser has said goodbye to the franchise, Josh Hutcherson will return and he’ll be joined by Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine and now Vanessa Hudgens.
THR reports that Hudgens will play the female lead in the flick. So what’s the story? Well as you can guess by the fact it’s called Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, they won’t be going to the centre of the planet this time. Instead Sean Anderson (Hutcherson), heads off with his mother’s boyfriend (Johnson), in search of his grandfather (Caine), who’s believed to be on a magical island. Hudgens plays a Pacific Islander who gets swept into the adventure and end up falling for Hutcherson.
Shooting is set to begin in the next few weeks, with the 3D flick eyeing a September 2011 release.
