Although nothing is official yet, THR reports that Tom Hanks is very interested in joining the cast of Sleeping Dogs, Kathryn Bigelow’s follow-up to The Hurt Locker, which was previously known as Triple Frontier.
The movie hasn’t even gone into production yet, but it’s already raising eyebrows in South America, where many governments would prefer Hollywood ignored the border zone between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil, which is a haven for organized crime. The movie itself centres on five people working in the zone.
The script comes from The Hurt Locker’s Mark Boal, and it’s exciting a lot of interest in Hollywood. Other actors who’ve been linked to the movie at one time or another include Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale, Sean Penn, Will Smith, Javier Bardem and Jeremy Renner, although as yet nobody has officially signed on. Bigelow hopes to start shooting in December of January.
