In a busy weekend for new movies at the US box office, there was a surprise winner this week, with Ben Affleck’s The Town outperforming most people’s excectations to nab the top slot with $23.8 million. That’s more than double what most expected it to take, which certainly isn’t bad going.
The film handily beat the second placed Easy A, starring Emma Stone as a college kid whose lies about losing her virginity get out of hand, which took $18.2 million, and third placed Devil, the M. Night Shyamalan Night Chronicles flick, which took $12.5 million. Some had expected Devil to emerge at number 1, showing what a reversal of fortune there was at the box office with weeked.
Also new this was Alpha and Omega, the animated movie about wolves, which took a less than stunning $9.2 million. Nevertheless, that’s actually not too bad for a non-studio produced CGI flick.
A couple of notable milestones were passed further down the list, with the Expendables passing $100 million, and Twilight: Eclipse joining the $300 million club. Take a look below for the US box office top 10 for the weekend of September 17th-19th.
