While I’m pretty certain the world is just getting a bit bored of Joaquin Phoenix, as he isn’t half as interesting as he seems to think he is, he’s front and centre at the moment with his is-it-real-or-not documentary, I’m Still Here, about his supposed transition from acting to rap, screening at the Toronto Film Festival this week.
At the time he announced he was gonna try and be a musician, he also said he was retiring from acting, but it appears he might have changed his mind. A couple of months ago he was in talks to star as Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven, alongside Jeremy Renner, however that fell through when Renner left, and the part of Poe went to John Cusack.
He was also recently been in negotations for Genius, opposite Sean Penn, about literary editor Max Perkins (with Phoenix up for the role of a young Thomas Wolfe), as well as the Jonah Hill comedy The Sitter, about a college student who is talked into baby-sitting the three misfit kids next door. However he dropped out of contention for both.
THR reports though that there’s still one movie he’s currently attached to, Big Shoe, about a foot and shoe fetishist who also is an amazing footwear designer. The film will be directed by Steven Shainberg, who previously tacked fetishism in Secretary. However it’s very early days, as Big Shoe has no financing, so who knows if Phoenix will ever actually make it.
