Despite nearing his 80s, Michael Caine show absolutely no sign of slowing down, and indeed he’s probably more popular now than at any time since the late 60s. However he’s also renowned for picking the projects that pay over those those of perhaps more artistic merit, which may explain why he’s decided to join the cast of the sequel to Journey To The Center Of The Earth.
Rather than heading back inside the planet, the movie – which will once again star young Josh Hutcherson, but this time joined by Dwayne Johnson (as his mother’s boyfriend) rather than Brendan Fraser – will see the boy heading off to a mysterious mythical island, in search of his missing grandfather. Unsurprisingly, Caine will play the man they’re looking for. While it sounds like a cameo, THR assures us the actor will be in action mode, invvoled in several chase sequences, including one involving giant bees!
Shooting on the movie will begin in October.
