He may have spent the last few years trying to distance himself from the name, The Rock (at least when acting), but he’d better preapre for a whole slew of puns on that soubriquet, as THR reports he’s in talks to star in the sequel to Journey To The Center Of The Earth 3D.
While Brendan Fraser was initially attached to reprise the lead role, that fell apart over disputes with the script, a change of director and scheduling problems, so now New Line have been looking elsewhere and locked onto Johnson, who’s in negotations and expected to sign on soon. He’ll join Josh Hutcherson, who will reprise his role as young explorer Sean Anderson.
The sequel, currently called, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, will see Johnson as the boyfriend of Sean’s mum, who joins the youngster on a trip to a mythical and monstrous island to find his missing grandfather (that family is sure good at losing their relatives in weird places). Shooting is due to begin in October, with Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs 2) directing.
