Casting Notes: Chloe Moretz In A Rut – Plus, Henry Cavill sees the Cold Light Of Day, Dicaprio out of Gibson’s Viking pic and more…

30th July 2010 By Tim Isaac

Here’s the latest casting news coming out of Hollywood…

Every few years a child star comes along who takes the movie world by storm, and at the moment that youngster is undoubtedly Chloe Moretz, who was already becoming a bit of a star when Kick-Ass saw her totally explode. As a result she’s got her pick of movies, and it appears she’s found a new one she’s interested in, as she’s in talks to appear in The Rut, Karyn Kusama’s follow-up to Jennifer’s Body. The film is about a father-daughter relationship and centres particularly on hunting, as a daughter must use the tricks of hunting and archery taught to her by her father, after her pops goes missing. Ever since The Tudors, it’s looked like the dashing Henry Cavill was going to be a breakout star, but so far his biggest post-Tudors role was in Woody Allen’s Whatever Works. However he’s now got a couple of roles up his sleeve that should help make him a much bigger star. He’s currently filming the role of Theseus in Tarsem Singh’s Greek mythology epic, Immortals, and now it’s been revealed he’ll also star in The Cold Light Of Day. Mabrouk El Mechri (JCVD) will direct the film, with Cavill as Will, a cocky young Wall Street trader who reluctantly vacations with his family in Spain. When his family is kidnapped, he is thrust into a government conspiracy and must unravel his father’s darkest secret in order to save his loved ones. It all sounds a bit Taken meets The Bourne Identity meets The Da Vinci Code, which could be a potent mix. The film starts shooting in Spain in September. (Source: THR)

Only yesterday it was announced that comedian Richard Lewis is joining the cast of Vamps, the vampire rom-com that will reunite Alicia Silverstone with Clueless director Amy Heckerling. Now another new cast member has been revealed in the form of Third Rock star Kristen Johnson. Silverstone and Kirsten Ritter will play New York socialite vampires whose freewheeling lifestyles are tripped up when they find love. Johnson will play  a mother who thinks something is askew when her son brings one of the female vampires home to meet here. Sigourney Weaver also stars as the queen vamp who turned them into bloodsuckers. Shooting starts next week in Detroit, and the film should be in cinemas next year. (Source: Start News)

Jordana Spiro, star of the US TV show My Boys, is heading for the silver screen in Trespass, the new Nicolas Cage film Joel Schumacher will direct. The film centres on a happily-married couple who are taken hostage by a group of ruthless thieves, led by Cage’s character. Nicole Kidman will play the kidnapped wife and Spiro will be play Cage’s girlfriend, Petal, who becomes an accomplice in the crime. Filming is set to begind next month. (Source: THR)

Finally, in what can only be considered inevitable news, and despite the project being announced a couple of months ago amid much fanfare and excitement on Leo DiCaprio’s part, the actor has now dropped out of the Viking themed movie he was planning to star in, which was to be directed by Mel Gibson. At the time it was announced, DiCaprio said he’d always been fascinated by Vikings and was thrilled to be part of the movie, but considering Gibson’s leaked rants and other problems have made him an utter pariah in Hollywood, it was a no-brainer that DiCaprio would drop out. He’ll just have to find another Viking movie to star in. Many suggest Gibson may return one day as a director, but it’s going to take several years, and few expect him to be seen on screen much anymore. Indeed, a lot of people believe a movie he’s completed as an actor, the Jodie Foster directed The Beaver, will now never see the light of day. (Source: Radar Online)
