Todd Phillips is best known as the director of such mainstream commercial fare as Road Trip, Old School, Starsky & Hutch and The Hangover, so when it was announced in April that he was producing a secret ‘Project X’, it was assumed it was another movie of the same ilk, but he wasn’t ready to talk about it yet.
However now Variety has an update, which suggests it’s going to have a completely no-name cast and will be told from the point of view of a cameraman, a la Cloverfield. Rather than monsters running around New York, the film will instead revolve around a group of kids who are trying to document a house party, when things start to go bad.
Little known names such as Miles Teller, Oliver Cooper, Jonathan Daniel Brown, Kirby Bliss Blanton, Dax Flame (what a name!), Nichole O’Connor and Alexis Knapp have all signed on to appear in the movie, which starts shooting next week under the direction of first time helmer Nima Nourizadeh. Whatever it actually ends up being, ‘Project X’ will be in cinemas November 2011.
