I’m starting to think that Timur Bekmambetoc doesn’t actually want to make movies any more, just putting ever more films into development and attaching himself as director to others, while never actually making any of them. Now the Wanted helmer is eyeing up a new one, with Variety reporting that he’s set to take on an English language of Black Lightning, the Russian film he produced last year (you can watch the rather cool trailer here).
Black Lightning is an effects filled movie about a boy becoming a crimefighter after he discovers his beaten up old car can fly. The remake would be made through Universal, which also part-funded the original, and the studio is also on-board for a sequel to the Russian movie, which would take the kid and his flying car into the criminal underworld.
It’s not clear whether Bekmambetov is thinking of directing or just producing the Blck Lightning remake, but he really ought to make something new soon.
