Alexander Skarsgard, who’s been setting female hearts aflutter as bad boy vampire Eric in True Blood for the past couple of years, has landed himself a major new role, signing up for the mega-budget game-to-movie adaptation, Battleship. He’ll join the previously announced Taylor Kitsh in the movie, with THR reporting that the two will play brothers.
The film revolves around an international fleet coming together to battle a water-bound armada of alien origin, who are trying to use our oceans as a power source and become a threat to humanity in the process. The hero, played by Kitsch, will be a wildly spirited naval officer, who idolises his straight arrow older brother, played by Skarsgard.
Hopefully the movie will give Alexander’s film career a boost, as while he’s been in the running for numerous major roles, he’s always been beaten out, including for Thor, where you’d have thought the fact he’s genuinely Scandinavian might have helped, but to which he was pipped to the post by an Australian, Chris Hemsworth.
Peter Berg will direct the movie, which starts shooting on August 30th in Hawaii. Battleship with his cinemas June 18th, 2012.
