A couple of weeks ago the shortlist for the role of Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s upcoming Spider-man reboot was announced, which included Jamie Bell, Alden Ehrenich, Josh Hutcherson, Andrew Garfield and Frank Dillane. However as always with major roles, until they eventually decide who’s going to play it, the list of possibles tends to grow and shrink, and despite reports the other day that Jamie Bell had pretty much snagged it, the LA Times has two more names to add as possible spidery superheroes who Sony and Webb are considering
Despite saying around the time of Kick-ass that he wasn’t interested in playing Spider-man, Aaron Johnson is now up for the role. A few months ago he suggested he didn’t want to do another superhero movie so quickly, especially as Kick-ass got a lot of its humour from ribbing the Spider-man style films. However it’s such a big role for an actor his age, it’s little wonder he’d consider if offered the opportunity to audition.
The other new name to add is Anton Yelchin, who, like Johnson, most had considered would at least be mentioned in connection with the web-slinging role. After supporting roles in Terminator: Salvation and Star Trek, the 21-year-old is now seen as a possible breakout star, and seems to be handling the transition from child star to grown-up actor pretty well.
Both would seem to be pretty strong candidates, although the LA Times is keen to point out it’s still early in the process and screen testing is yet to begin. So don’t expect to hear who’s officially nabbed that part for a while yet.
