While at first a remake of the 1981 Dudley Moore film Arthur, starring Russell Brand, sounded like a terrible idea, however we’ve warmed to the idea, especially when Helen Mirren came on board to take over John Gielgud’s Oscar-winning role, turning him from a butler into Arthur’s former nanny.
Greta Gerwig has also signed on in the Liza Minelli role, playing the working class girl drunken lush Arthur falls for, which puts his fortune at risk, with his family demanding he marry the woman they’ve chosen for him.
Now THR reports that two more actors are eyeing up roles in the film, with Jennifer Garner and Nick Nolte in talks to sign up. Apparently ‘Garner is playing an heiress who carries her own secrets and whom Brand must marry. Nolte is her deeply religious father.’ Do we already smell secret lesbian here?
Modern Family’s Jason Winer will direct the movie, although as yet no production date has been set.
