THR has revealed that David Tennant and Christopher Mintz-Plasse have joined the remake of Fright Night, which Dreamworks is currently putting together, with Craig Gillespie directing. The new casting reveals a few changes from the original film, although not necesarily for the worse.
In the 1985 movie, a teen called Charlie, who believes he has a vampire living next door, calls on the help of washed-up actor Peter Vincent, who kills vampires in Charlie’s favourite TV show. However in the new version, instead of an actor, Vincent be a Las Vegas magician, played by Tennant, who uses horror movie imagery in his performances. As part of his mystique, the magician claims to be an expert in vampires, but when the teen asks for his help, Vincent is less than impressive.
Kick-Ass star Mintz-Plasse meanwhile will be Evil Ed, Charlie’s friends who feels slighted that the teen has slightly left him behind and so joins the vampire’s coven.
Anton Yelchin will play Charlie, while Toni Collette will be his mother.
