Director Thomas Carter has made a bit of a niche for himself directing teen dance movies like Swing Kids and Save The Last Dance, and he’s now heading back to dancing youngsters for Dream On.
THR reports that he’s signed on with Mandate Pictures to helm the movie, about a gymnast whose dreams of olympic glory are dashed by injury, who then delves into the world of the underground hip-hop scene in Atlanta. I think it’s fairly safe to say there’ll also be a big dance-off, at which merging hip-hop with gymnastics will wow the crowd.
Quite whether Carter really wants to be back directing dancing kids is another matter. In the last few years he’s been trying to break free, making the likes of Coach Carter, but getting slightly stuck in a quagmire of low rent rent TV movies. It seems that if he wants his films in cinemas, people are only interested if he’s got dancing fever.
