It seems director McG is keen to get into the teen business, as he’s already signed up to produce the likes of Monster Squad, Dead Spy Running and I’m An Evil Genius And Want To be Your Class President, and now Variety reports that his production company has bought the rights to Kody Keplinger’s soon-to-be published novel, The DUFF, with an eye to turning it into a film.
DUFF has nothing to do with the beer in The Simpson, instead standing for ‘Designated Ugly Fat Friend’. It follows 17-year-old Poppy, who realises she may well be DUFF herself, and as a results struggles with her sense of identity while juggling a tumultuous home life.
At the moment it looks like McG will only produce (which is always good news), with no director or writer set for the film adaptation as yet.
