While a movie called Pacific Rim doesn’t really sound like an alien invasion film, Legendary Pictures, the company behind Chris Nolan’s Batman movies, as well as 300 and Clash Of The Titans, has bought a 25-page treatment from Clash writer Travis Beacham, which goes by that title. It’s described by Deadline as being “Set in a future in which malevolent creatures threaten the earth, the planet must band together and use highly advanced technology to eradicate the growing menace.”
Well, presumably that’s an alien invasion, unless the Pacific Rim refers to the fact the menace has been in the oceans all along, as in The Abyss (well, sort of) and is now pissed off with us screwing up the planet. Envisioned as a major tentpole release, Legendary has paid in the high-six figures for the treatment, which Beacham will now turn into a screenplay.
However the writer is going to be busy, he’s also writing 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea for Fox, The Black Hole for Disney and has a script in development for JJ Abram’s Bad Robot production company.
