There’s been few rumours recenlty that Skins was going to get the big screen treatment, and that’s now been confirmed, with Film4 announcing that show creator Bryan Elsley and series writer Jack Thorne are busy writing the script, and it’ll film in Bristol and the Isle of Man later this year.
However what Film4 didn’t answer was the questions most people wanted to know. Would we get the original Skins kids back, or will it the wannabes we’ve had for the last couple of seasons? The likes of Nicholas Hoult and Dev Patel have moved onto busy film careers, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t return if the price was right, and while the show has remained popular, with new people coming and going, there’s little doubt more people would want to see what’s happened to the original crew. All distributor Steve Christian will say is, “Everyone wants to know right now but until the whole package is put together we’re keeping quiet. But there will be some names from series one and two and some new faces as well.”
Again there’s no news on the plot, but it’s safe to say it’ll involve enough teenage sex and drug taking to shock the sort of people who like to be shocked by things. The film is also likely to get a decent budget (for a British film anyway), so that it isn’t just the TV series in a cinema, and they can be a bit more ambitious. Chris Martin, who’s directed numerous episodes of the show will be behind the camera, with a release expected next year.
