Now here’s a bit of a mystery, Last week it was that reported that Twilight star Ashley Greene had all but signed up to play Jill in Scream 4, with all that needed to happen was to dot some i’s and cross some t’s on the contract. However now EW is saying the role has gone to Emma Roberts, and they even have a quote from director Wes Craven to back it up. He says, Emmas talent, beauty, and range will add immensely to the sophistication, intensity, and fun of the Scream franchise as it returns to the screen once more.
So what does that mean for Greene. Is she out entirely? Has she been killed by Ghostface already? Was she actually up for another role? While there’s no official news, it seems the latter is most likely, with the deal having fallen through. Presumably the other new faces, including Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin and Lake Bell are still in place, as are the old guard of Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette.
Shooting is due to start at the end of June, presumably now with Roberts in the lead, as Sidney Prescott’s cousin Jill, who discovers it’s not only her relatives who seem to attract manical knife-wielding maniacs with a penchant for wearing makes. Scream 4 hits cinemas April 2011.
