The indie comedy Sweet Baby Jesus is sure pulling an unexpected group of actors together. Bette Midler, singer Pixie Lott and Sex and the City’s Kim Cattrall have already been cast in the film, while Deadline reports that Sam Rockwell is also interested in joining the film.
It’s certainly not an ensemble anyone would have taken bets on ever appearing together in a film. If Rockwell does sign up he’ll play 70s hippy Joe, who accompany’s his pregnant teenage girlfriend, Mary (Lott), to Bethelhem, Maryland, just before Christmas. With the omens seemings to align, the town is soon convinced they’re about to see the birth of the second coming. Cattrall will be Darlene, mother of Mary, while Midler will be an innkeeper, Elanor.
So it’s sort of like a satricial nativity play, but don’t expect it to be too subtle and clever a movie, as it’s from director Peter Hewitt, helmer of Garfield and Thunderpants. The movie is due to shoot this summer.
