Paul W.S. Anderson is certainly filling the cast of his upcoming 3D version of The Three Musketeers, especially as he’s keen to get it into cinemas before a Doug Liman directed Musketeers movie that’s in the works at Warner. We already know that Luke Evans, Ray Stevenson and Matthew MacFadyen will be Porthos, Athos and Aramis, Logan Lerman is onboard as D’Artagnan, while Christoph Waltz will be Cardinal Richelieu, Mads Mikkelson Rochefort, Milla Jovovich the mysterious Milady and Juno Temple the Queen.
Right from the moment we heard Anderson was busy casting his movie, there were reports that Orlando Bloom had been offered a role, although back then, it wasn’t known if he would take it. However Variety now says that he has indeed agreed to appear in the movie, as has comedian James Corden. Bloom will be playing the Duke of Buckingham, while Corden has signed up as the servant Planchet.
Poor old Orlando. Despite having starred in two of the biggest film franchises ever – Pirates of the Caribbean and Lord of the Rings – he simply hasn’t been able to catch a break elsewhere, and now has to take supporting roles in Musketeer movies. At least he gets to romance Juno Temple in the movie, which must be some consolation.
Anderson’s 3D musketeer movie starts shooting in September, with a release planned for next year.
