Here’s the latest casting news coming out of Hollywood and Cannes…
Inglorious Basterds star Michael Fassbender has been lined up for A Single Shot, along with William H. Macy and Thomas Hayden Church. Fassbender will go from hunting nazi to hunting wildlife, as a poacher who makes a fatal mistake that leaves him with a suitcase full of blood money and hardened killers on his trail. As the hunter becomes the hunted, he is forced to defend his family alone. David Jacobson will direct, while Matthew F. Jones is adapting his own novel. (Source: Screen international)
For a long time now, there’s been talk of Edgar Wright directing a film based on Marvel’s Ant-Man. However while the movie isn’t dead, it’s taking a hell of a long time to get to the screen. However, while this is completely unofficial, a source told Marvelous News that Firefly and Castle star Nathan Fillion is “pretty much locked to be Henry Pym [Ant-Man], and should be announced before any other new additions to the cast.” Before you get too excited, The Playlist got in touch with Edgar Wright about the Fillion casting, to which the director said, “Not as far as I know”. While Sean Penn has been attached to Il Divo director Paulo Sorrentino’s English-language debut, This Must Be The Place, for quite a while, we’ve heard little more about other cast members. However it seems Penn now has some company, with Frances McDormand joining the film. The film is about an aging rock star who decides to hunt down the Nazis who ordered his father’s execution in a concentration camp. There’s no news yet on who McDormand will play. (Source: Variety)
Brendan Gleeson and Donald Sutherland are set to star in The McClean Boys, based on a real-life story of Canadian outlaws who nearly incited a native uprising in 1879 British Columbia. Charles Martin Smith will direct the movie, which starts shooting in July. Sutherland will play the father of the three half Shuswap native McLean Boys, who get caught up in a tragic chain of events that leads to them being hunted by a posse of 100 men, led by Gleeson’s Justice of the Peace.
