After making a big splash with his teen noir Brick in 2005, we haven’t seen too much of director Rian Johnson (he made The Brothers Bloom a couple of years ago, but that’s yet to make it to the UK – it’s coming June 4th). However he’s now prepping a sci-fi flick called Looper, about assassins who travel through time, taking their victims into the past, so there’s no trace of a crime, and of course no body, in the present.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt has already been announced as the star of the film, and now Deadline reports that he’s been joined by Bruce Willis. Interestingly, Willis and Gordon-Levitt will be playing the same character, one from the present time and one from the future, which suggests that perhaps the plot will revolve around two versions of the same person battling each other across time.
Willis may be a very variable actor, but when he has a good script and a strong director, he can be excellent. Johnson has certainly shown a lot of style and could get a great performance out of Bruce.
