Preliminary shooting for Transformers 3 is just about to start, with Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox both back with the robots, along with new additions to the cast including John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Ken Jeong and Patrick Dempsey. We can now add another name to the list, as The Wrap reports that Alan Tudyk, star of Firefly and Dodgeball will be in the film, which should be very good news for sci-fi fanboys.
While Paramount has confirmed the casting, they haven’t said what role Tudyk will play, which isn’t too much of a surprise, as so far they haven’t even dropped a hint about the Transformers 3 plot yet.
Elsewhere, the AP spoke to Shia Labeouf at Cannes (he heads for the Transformers 3 set next Tuesday), and even he seems to think Revenge Of The Fallen was a bit rubbish, and is promising a better movie next time around. He says, “When I saw the second movie, I wasn’t impressed with what we did. There were some really wild stunts in it, but the heart was gone.”
He adds, “we got lost. We tried to get bigger. It’s what happens to sequels. It’s like, how do you top the first one? You’ve got to go bigger. Mike (Bay) went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie. … You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn’t matter. Then it’s just a bunch of robots fighting each other.”
However he does promise the third one will be a lot better, “There’s going to be a lot of death, human death. This time, they’re targeting humans. It’s going to be the craziest action movie ever made, or we failed.”
