Colin Farrell is planning to be a very busy man over the next few months, as only yesterday we reported that he’s signed up to appear in the Fright Night remake, he’s also in the running for Seth Gordon’s Horrible Bosses and now it appears he’s also agreed to make David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis, alongside Marion Cotillard.
Variety reports that Farell will play the lead role of a multimillionaire who loses all his wealth and sets out to make it back, while Cotillard will be his wife. However making the movie watchable is going to be a challenge, as in the Don DeLillo novel it’s based on, the protagonist is a bit of an asshole and there’s no straightforward narrative, instead following the character over 24 hours as he travels across Manhattan (initially to get a haircut) cheating on his wife and getting paranoid someone’s trying to kill him, while also taking in financiers getting murdered, the funeral of a rapper and some violent anti-globalisation protests.
The film is being presented to buyers at Cannes, although filming isn’t due to take place until spring 2011 (as Cronenberg has A Dangerous Method to make before then).
