It seems that as Danny McBride and Aziz Ansari are both comedy actors on the cusp of breaking into the big time, they’ve decided it’d be a good idea to team up try to take on the world of film together. While both have had success in the likes of Pineapple Express,Tropic Thunder (McBride), Funny People (Ansari) and Observe & Report (in which they both appeared), neither has yet really made it big outside an ensemble cast.
However it looks like they’re trying to do something about that, with THR reporting they’ve just sold their currently untitled comedy pitch to Mandate Pictures. The pitch is based on an idea by Ansari and 30 Rock writer Matt Hubbard, and is being set up as a starring vehicle for both Aziz and McBride (Harris Wittels, who writes for Ansari’s TV series Parks & Recreation, will pen the script).
Unfortunately nothing is known about the plot yet, which is a bit of a bummer. Let’s hope it funny.
It’s been quite a year for Ansari though, as this isn’t the only pitch he’s sold, as Judd Apatow bought three of his ideas shortly after Funny People opened.
Mcbride and Ansari are also just about to start shooting 30 Minutes Or Less together, with Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer directing.
