Here’s the latest casting news coming out of Hollywood…
Charlize Theron is set to star in and produce a currently untitled comedy, based on a pitch by David Caspe. Unfortunately there’s no news on the plot. Caspe, who’s yet to have any of his scripts make it to the big screen, has nevertheless made quite a splash in Hollywood, selling Karate Kids to Summit and I Hate You Dad to Sony. He’s also created the TV series Happy Endings, which is currently at the pilot stage at ABC. (Source: Variety)
Every composer needs a biopic at some point, and the latest one in the works is based on Vivaldi (and that will be the title of the movie too). The film, to be directed by Patricia Riggen, is about a secret love that develops between the composer (who was also a priest and violinist) and his protege, the singer Anna Tessieri Giro, which leads him to write his masterpiece, The Four Seasons. Although most shcolars agree the romance never happened, a forbidden romance has bben rumoured since Vivaldi was alive and so the filmmakers are going to run with it. Jessica Biel and Luke Evans are in negotiations for the two main roles in the movie, with the announcement timed to try and help efforts to sell the movie at Cannes. (Source: THR)
In another casting announcement timed to help sales at Cannes, it’s being reported that Zachary Quinto and Kevin Spacey are both committed to making Margin Call. The film is set over a 24-hour period and follows about eight people at a prominent investment bank as they deal with the storm that accomanied the early stages of the financial crisis. Quinto will also produce the thriller, which will be helmed by writer/director J.C. Chandor. (Source: Deadline)
Although there’s no news on who might get any of the roles yet, a piece in the LA Times has suggested that not only is Marvel still keen to make a movie based on Luke Cage, but that “a notable Hollywood star is now having (very) preliminary talks with Marvel Studios about the property and its potential.” Of course, nothing may come of this, and we don’t know who the notable star is is anyway, but it suggest Marvel feels a Like Cage movie is close enough to start casting. In case you don’t know, Cage is one of the few black superheroes, who, after being locked up for a crime he didn’t commit, was subjected to a medical experiment that went wrong and caused him to have steel-hard skin and incredible strength. He then broke out of prison, donned a costume and became a hero for hire. Incidentally, it’s also why Nicolas Cage chose ‘Cage’ as his professional surname when he changed it from Coppola.
