It’s a tried and tested forumla – after the first few instalments of a franchise, what do you do? You get some new blood in of course to freshen things up. While the fourth Fast & Furious movie was the first to reunite all the major players of the original movie (although Paul Walker was in number 2 and Vin Diesel had a cameo in the third), it seem Universal thinks they could do with adding another big action name to keep the interest up for part five.
So who is it? Well, Deadline is reporting that The Rock himself, AKA Dwayne Johnson, is in talks to join the franchise. There’s no firm news on what role he might take, but a match-up between him and Vin Diesel could certainly see sparks fly, with one trying to out action the other. Rumours suggest he’s be playing some sort of lawman, but in the world of Fast and the Furious, that doesn’t tell us whether he’s one of the good guys or a villain.
Dwayne could certainly do with a hit, as the likes of Tooth Fairy and Race to Witch Mountain flopped badly, and while he’s heading back into adult action territory with Faster, dipping into the Fast & Furious franchise should ensure he’ll have at least one hit in the next couple of years.
