Actress Lynn Redgrave, a member of the famed Redgrave acting dynasty, has died of breast cancer at the age of 67. It’s another blow for the Redgraves, who lost Lynn’s niece, actress Natasha Richardson, following a skiing accident a year ago, while her brother Corin died only last month.
Lynn was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2003, and while she fought the disease for seven years, it finally took her life. In 2004 she even wrote a book about her battle, titled ‘A Mother and Daughter’s Recovery from Breast Cancer.’
The star followed her parents, Sir Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, into acting in the 1960s, scoring an Oscar nomination for what was only her third film, Georgy Girl in 1967. She later scored another Oscar nomination in 1999 for Gods and Monsters. In recent years Lynn also appeared in the likes of Shine, Charlie’s War, Peter Pan, Kinsey and Confessions of a Shopaholic.
Outside of the cinema, Redgrave had an illustrious TV and stage career, earning three Tony nominations and an Emmy nomination. He final screen appearance was a guest role in Ugly Betty last year.
She is survived by three children, six granchildren, as well as her sister Vanessa, her niece, Nip/Tuck star Joely Richardson, and three other nieces and nephews.
