Once upon a time Bobcat Goldthwait was just a comedian, best known for playing the strangely voiced Zed in the Police Academy sequels. However since then he’s moved into directing, making the likes of Stay and World’s Greatest Dad, and become a bit of a cult fave with some.
Now /Film is reporting he’s putting a new movie together, described as an ‘ass-kicking western’ called Rio Malo, about crooked cops, unavenged murders, injustice, discrimination and drag.’ The film is currently out to potential investors, where it’s being billed as an action/adventure story, which would mark a bit of a departure for Goldthwait, whose films may have been somehwat dark, but were always solidly in the comedy arena.
The director is planning to head off the Cannes to try and find some cash, with plans to start shooting later this year.
