Long before Alvin & The Chipmunks made Hollywood obsessed with turning old cartoons into new movies, Paramount subsidiary Nickelodeon movies was working on a CG version of Mighty Mouse, the classic Superman spoof cartoon that Terry-Toons created in the 1940s.
However, despite numerous writers having a stab at the script, they’ve so far failed to find something that excited them enough to greenlight an actual movie. That doesn’t mean they’re going to give up though. While the project has seemed to be stalled for ages, the LA Times reports that Paramount is keen to put new momentum back into the Might Mouse flick and are currently seeking a new writer and director for the film, with the hope this will set a fire under the reboot.
The real question however is whether the studio will stick with the all CG plan, or go part live action, which seems to be Hollywood’s favourite thing to do nowadays (other than turning toys into films, of course). It seems Paramount hasn’t definitively made a decision either way, but whatever they decide, it seem the studio sees plenty of potential for a family friendly Mighty Mouse film franchise.
