No wonder the upcoming Steve Carell comedy doesn’t have a name, as every time we hear about it, it sounds like a completely different movie. First it was described as being about ‘a father who has a mid-life marital crisis, and whose life unravels as he tries to handle his relationship with his children’, then it was said it had a tone similar to Love Actually. When Ryan Gosling came onboard, it was reported he would play Carell’s best friend, but now it appears he’s going to be his life coach.
Now, with the news Kevin Bacon has also joined the movie, THR offers the clearest idea yet of what is actually going on in the currently untitled Dan Fogelman scripted flick, although it still isn’t much. Apparently, ‘The story centers on Carell, whose wife (Julianne Moore) wants a divorce. To salvage their marriage, he uses a slick life coach (Ryan Gosling) to reform him. Bacon will play a co-worker of Moore’s, an alpha male who begins an affair with her.’
It’s a good role for Bacon, who shown before he can play slimeballs pretty well. Shooting on the film, which will be directed by John Requa and Glenn Ficarra, will start later this month, once Carell has finished up this season of The Office.
