Hollywood has always had a love affair with dragons, as the recent release of How To Train Your Dragon has shown. This doesn’t appear to be ending, as THR reports that Eagle Eye screenwriter Travis Adam Wright (who’s also worked on the upcoming remake of The Warriors), has been hired to adapt the first two book from James A. Owen’s young adult book sets, The Chronicles of the Imaginarium Geographica, for the big screen.
Wright will tackle Here, There Be Dragons and The Search for the Red Dragon, which revolve around a secret book that contains the unpublished maps and journals of history’s most famous author-adventurers. Included as protagonists are a young J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, future giants of the fantasy-adventure genre, whose famous works are imagined by Owen to have been inspired by these fictional adventures. The first book sees a trio of adventurers passing from the real world into the Archipelago Of Dreams, pursued by terrible creatures which threaten to change the destiny of the two worlds.
It’s certainly a premise with a lot of promise, although any film would be incredibly expensive to make, and so it may have difficulty actually making it to the screen. However, the people behind the film version have sensibly hired Lord Of The Rings producer, Rick Porras to produce the movie. He knows a little something about shepherding projects like this to the big screen, so it’s probably got a better shot at getting made than most.
