I’m not entirely convinced Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov actually wants to make movies anymore. Instead he just attaches himself to as many flicks as he can without actually making any of them. Part of the reason he keeps not making movies is because of the tortuous process of coming up with a sequel for Wanted, which he’s been on the verge of making for ages, but it keep getting delayed (and may not have come unstick completely, following Angelina Jolie’s departure).
While he’s already got Wanted 2, Moby Dick, The Red Star and The Last Witch Hunter in development (along with several other projects he’s attached to as a producer) he’s now decided to add another flick to his list of possibles, with the LA Times saying his next movie may actually be an ‘edgy 3-D thriller’ called Red Asphalt. Little is known about the plot of the film, although it’s been written by Andrew Baldwin, who’s never had a screen credit but wrote a spec script called The West Is Dead which hit the 2008 Black List.
The project has plenty of momentum at Lionsgate and Bekmambetov is said to be very interested in directing. As yet though, it doesn’t look like Timur’s made any decisions about what he wants to make next, so it seems that as we’ve been doing for the past couple of years, we’ll just have to wait and see whether he’s ever going to actually get anything else in the can.
