Tony Scott is one of those directors who likes to attach himself to a lot of movies before deciding which one he’s actually going to make. Currently IMDB lists 17 movies that have yet to be released that he’s said to be involved with, including a remake of The Warriors, Emma’s War and Potzdamer Platz.
According to Deadline, it’s the last of these that’s looking to be the movie he makes next, once he’s finished work on the Denzel Washington and Chris Pine action-drama, Unstoppable. Potzdamer Platz has been making its way to the screen for a long time, with Scott first buying Buddy Gionvinazzo’s screenplay in 2000, which chronicles the true story of how the New Jersey mob tried to take over the contruction business in Germany. However it seems the project really starting revving up last year after Sexy Beast scribes David Scinto and Louis Mellis were brought in to give things an overhaul, which seems to have involved updating everything and changing the location of the drime family expansion to Puerto Rico (which would suggest a name change is on the cards, as Potzdamer Platz is in Berlin).
Javier Bardem, Jason Statham and Mickey Rourke are said to be circling the project, although none has officially signed a deal yet (Rourke has been attached for some time, so he would seem a fairly safe bet). However while it seems Potzdamer is what Scott wants to make next, financing is yet to be completed, so it may be that he ends up having to look elsewhere.
