I think people must have just got into a groove of endlessly wondering who’s going to play roles in the Captain America movie, as with the fevered speculation over the main role having been quelled by the announcement Chris Evans would play the hero, the rumours have now moved on to who will be take the female lead, Peggy Carter.
Several names have been mentioned in connection with the role, and only last week it was reported that Emily Blunt was offered the part but turned it down. Now EOnline! is reporting that the new front-runner to be Chris Evans love interest is Alice Eve. Although not a big name yet, the British actress has a major role in the Jay Baruchel comedy She’s Out Of My League and will also be seen in Sex and the City 2.
However Eve hasn’t bagged the role yet, as fellow Brit Hayley Atwell (The Duchess, The Prisoner) is also said to be screen-testing for the role for a second time, even if it’s Eve the producers are currently thinking has the best shot. Thankfully though, it appears Keira Knightley is no longer in the running.
It seems a final name for Peggy Carter will be announced soon, ahead of filming on the Joe Johnston film starting this summer, with a July 2011 release planned.
