Tarsem Singh’s War Of The Gods started shooting in Canada this week, except that it’s no longer called War Of The Gods. Variety reports that Relativity media has announced a couple of new cast member and a change of name for the Greek mythology flick, which will now go by the title, Immortals. Quite how that’s better I don’t know, but at least it isn’t any worse.
Immortals follows the young warrior Theseus, who leads his men into battle with the immortal Greek gods to defeat the elder gods of the Titans in order to save mankind. Henry Cavill, Stephen Dorff, Luke Evans, Kellan Lutz, Joseph Morgan, Freida Pinto and Mickey Rourke have already been announced for the film, and they’ll now be joined by John Hurt and Transformers 2 star, Isabel Lucas. Hurt will portray the earthly manifestation of Zeus, who acts as a mentor and teacher to Theseus (Cavill). Lucas will portray Athena, the daughter of Zeus.
The movie is currently scheduled for release on November 11th, 2011, suggesting they’re planning lots of time for post-production special effects.
